"My First Existential Crisis" Children's Playset
Mixed Media, vinyl mounted on chipboard
I enjoy exploring opposing ideas or putting subjects into absurd situations, so I created “My First Existential Crisis”. When I saw the image I ended up using, I laughed out loud. I looked at the baby’s expression and thought, “Wow, that baby is really going through it.”
When I sealed the piece, I realized the paintbrush I was using had bits of dried acrylic paint stuck in it, which flaked off onto the piece. I thought I was going to hate it, but in the end, I loved the dirty, stained, uneven version. It felt authentic—especially since I have kids, and that’s exactly how all their stuff ends up looking.
